The ACADEMY
CODE OF CONDUCT
General Rules
- No sitting or lying on the floor outside of training.
- No use of electronic devices in the training area.
- No food, drinks, or chewing gum inside the training area.
- No loud conversations or disruptions while class is in session.
- No unauthorized coaching of students or children during class.
- Video recording is only allowed with approval, never during instruction.
Dress Code & Uniform
- No shirts under the kimono during sparring.
- Students must wear the official GI/NO-GI uniform.
- GI top and pants must match in color (white only).
- Underwear is mandatory under GI pants at all times.
- No metal objects, jewelry, or piercings during training.
- Rash guard and approved shorts or GI pants for NO-GI.
Safety & Mat Rules
- Keep nails trimmed for safety and hygiene.
- If late, wait for the instructor’s signal to enter.
- Safety gear must be worn during contact training.
- Always be aware of those around you while training.
- Seek instructor permission before leaving the mat early.
- Mouthpiece and groin protection are required for sparring.
Hygiene & Cleanliness
- No shoes, food, or drinks on the mat.
- Clean feet before stepping on the mat.
- No outside food is allowed inside the school.
- Always wear shoes/slippers when off the mat.
- GI must be washed and dried after every session.
- Maintain personal hygiene; Jiu-Jitsu is close contact.
Etiquette & Attitude
- When tying your belt, turn towards the wall.
- No foul language, arguing, or disruptive behavior.
- Talking should be minimal and related to training.
- Show respect to instructors, training partners, and staff.
- Higher belts have mat priority; give space when needed.
- Bow when entering/exiting the mat and greeting partners.
Class Procedures
- Classes begin and end with a formal bow.
- Report injuries to an instructor immediately.
- Arriving early? Wait in the seating area quietly.
- No unsupervised training or sparring is allowed.
- Only instructors may teach techniques to students.
- Line up with your attendance card at the start of class.
